Besuchs- und Chinavorbereitungen im Generellen

Keine Frage, ich freue mich auf jede Art von Besuch. Dieser Blogeintrag soll dazu dienen, die Besuchsvorbereitungen für euch so übersichtlich wie möglich zu machen und gleichzeitig möchte ich etwas von meiner Zeit sparen, da ich es einmal „richtig und ausführlich“ erklären möchte und danach nur noch auf diesen Beitrag verweisen werde.

Solltet ihr mich besuchen wollen, so benötigt ihr von mir ein Einladungsschreiben. In dem Schreiben wird unter anderem Ein- und Ausreisedatum festgelegt. Das ist prima für mich, denn somit ist jeder Überraschungsbesuch faktisch ausgeschlossen. Unerwartete Putzkontrollen (von Mutter oder Oma) wird es also nicht geben!!!

Mit dem Einladungsschreiben beantragt ihr in der chinesischen Botschaft oder im Konsulat ein Touristenvisum für maximal 3 Monate. Wollt ihr länger bleiben, wird es echt kompliziert…

Nachdem Ihr das Visum in eurem Reisepass kleben habt, steht eurer Anreise höchstens noch die fehlende Flugbuchung im Wege. Nehmen wir mal an, ihr landet dann, mit oder ohne Verspätung, in Pudong (Pudong International Airport ist der Shanghaier Flughafen für die meisten internationalen Flüge), so gibt es anschließend mehrere Möglichkeiten, vom Flughafen zu meiner Wohnung zu kommen.

• Taxi: Vermutlich die sinnvollste und je nach Tageszeit auch die schnellste und komfortabelste aller Möglichkeiten.
• Metro: Definitiv die billigste aller Möglichkeiten.
• Magnetschwebebahn: Eine sehr spannende Möglichkeit, einen kleinen Teil des Weges zurückzulegen.

Gehen wir die Möglichkeiten mal der Reihe nach durch.

 

Taxi

Taxi am Flughafen: Nachdem ihr den Zollbereich verlassen habt, erwartet euch eine Horde von Menschen mit Schildern von internationalen Firmen und Hotels. Schon hier versuchen einige, die unerfahrenen Touristen in ein „schwarzes“ Taxi zu lenken. Ignorieren, nicht beachten und einfach weitergehen. Die Ausschilderung zur Metro, Maglev (Transrapid) und zu den Taxis ist sehr gut. Diesen Schildern einfach folgen. Irgendwo verlässt man dann das Flughafengebäude, bekommt im Sommer bei der Gelegenheit gleich noch ein Ding vor den Latz geknallt aufgrund der Wärme und Schwüle. Sieht man dann irgendwo eine große Menschenmasse, ist die Chance groß, dass es sich um die Schlange zu den Taxis handelt. Hier gilt es nicht abschrecken lassen und einfach hinten anstellen. 100 m Schlange können schon mal vorkommen, sind aber ganz sicher in spätestens 15 Minuten abgearbeitet. Sobald man vorne am Kopf der Schlange angekommen ist, heißt es Ruhe bewahren, der Aufpasser sagt einem schon, wann man zu welchem der Taxis gehen soll. Koffer ins Auto und einsteigen. Wohin es geht, wird später erklärt. Erste Pflicht ist es nun, die Taxispur zu räumen, damit die Leute nach einem in der Schlange nicht unnötig lange warten müssen. Wo wir gerade bei der Wartezeit in der Schlange sind: Die Zeit bietet sich geradezu dafür an, die zuhause vorbereitete Anfahrtsbeschreibung zu suchen und auszupacken (egal, ob als Fresszettel oder als Bild auf dem Smartphone). Diese Information lässt man dann dem Fahrer zukommen und schon geht es los. Sollte der Fahrer irgendwas Komisches fragen, immer freundlich nicken und lächeln, wird schon passen… Solange man sich in einem offiziellen Taxi befindet, ist die Gefahr beschissen zu werden quasi null.

 

Die wahren Experten unter den Weltreisenden erkennt man daran, dass sie den Fahrtverlauf live mitverfolgen. Dazu bietet sich die Offlinekarte „maps.me“ an. Eine wirklich großartige App. Natürlich muss man vor Abflug die entsprechenden Karten herunterladen.

Bei gutem Wetter (guter Fernsicht) kann es sich lohnen, eher zur rechten Seite aus dem Fenster zu schauen, da man mit etwas Glück am Horizont die unglaubliche Skyline mit den krass hohen Wolkenkratzern sehen oder erahnen kann. Bezahlt werden will der Fahrer am Ende der Fahrt natürlich auch noch. Dafür hat man entweder in Deutschland oder spätestens am Flughafen chinesisches Geld organisiert. Die mindestens einstündige Fahrt vom Flughafen in die Innenstadt kostet ca. 200 RMB (ca. 25 €). Beim Aussteigen ist es wichtig, nichts im Taxi liegen zu lassen 🙂

Metro

Die Fahrt mit der Metro vom Flughafen ins Stadtzentrum ist ebenfalls möglich. Vorher ist es aber noch geboten, eine Metrofahrkarte zu kaufen, entweder als Einzelfahrschein oder als Guthabenkarte. Letzteres ist das einzig Vernünftige, am besten bei der Gelegenheit die Karte gleich mal mit 100 RMB aufladen. Das sollte für einen Urlaub reichen. Jeder Mitreisende braucht seine eigene Karte. Die Mädels am Schalter sind im Zweifel beim Erwerb behilflich. Da der Flughafen die vorletzte Station der Metrolinie 2 ist, hat man sogar gewisse Chancen, einen Sitzplatz zu ergattern. Im Berufsverkehr ist die Wahl der Metro aber definitiv eine bescheidene Option, da diese Linie die am besten gefüllte in der ganzen Stadt ist. Sollte man einen Sitzplatz ergattert haben, endet die Freude darüber an der Station Guanglan Rd. Denn dort muss man von der Linie 2 in die Linie 2 umsteigen – tatsächlich, kein Scheiß. Warum das so ist, kann ich auch nicht sagen, ist aber so… Also einfach, wenn alle aussteigen, raus aus dem Zug, andere Bahnsteigseite und wieder rein in den Zug, oder in den Nächsten, sollte der Erste schon voll sein. Hat man es nach einer Ewigkeit bis zur Jiangsu Rd. geschafft, gilt es auszusteigen. Jede Station hat nummerierte Ausgänge. Bitte Ausgang Nummer 3 verwenden. Sobald ihr das Tageslicht seht, ganz ganz scharf rechts halten – also quasi einen U-Turn um 180 Grad machen – und durch die „Hofeinfahrt gehen“. Nicht wundern, einfach weitergehen. Die schmale hohle Gasse macht dann noch einen 90-Grad-Knick nach rechts und einen weiteren nach links und schon nach nur ca. 200 m steht ihr auf einer Parallelstraße zur ursprünglichen Straße. 50 m links die Straße entlang, dann die Straße überqueren und schon seid ihr an meinem Domizil angekommen.

Im Zusammenhang mit U-Bahnfahren ist noch die App Explore Shanghai erwähnenswert. Darin wird auf sehr übersichtliche Weise der Metroplan visualisiert, die Sprache lässt sich auch von Chinesisch auf Englisch umstellen (Knopf ganz unten rechts).

Magnetschwebebahn

Wenn ihr das Abenteuer Magnetschwebebahn erleben wollt, kann ich euch als Vorbereitungslektüre diesen Blogeintrag aus dem Jahre 2012 empfehlen. Wenn ihr die Fahrt eher unvoreingenommen antreten wollt, dann lest den Eintrag besser nicht. Die Durchführung ist denkbar einfach. Am Flughafen lediglich der Ausschilderung folgen, ein Ticket kaufen, einsteigen, aussteigen – fertig. Naja, fast fertig, wenn die Fahrt beendet ist, müsst ihr noch den restlichen Weg fahren, entweder mit der Metro oder halt mit einem Taxi (siehe etwas weiter oben…), wobei die Taxisuche am Flughafen um Längen einfacher ist, weil besser organisiert und ohne Taxi App Didi möglich.

Dem Endspurt ganz nahe seid ihr, wenn ihr die folgende Adresse erreicht habt:

Im optimalen Fall sollten beide Adressen zum selben Punkt auf der Landkarte führen.

Um den Einlauf zu vollenden, müsst ihr noch den Securitycheckpoint überwinden. Das ist die Stelle mit dem Zaun und der Schranke. Danach einfach dem Weg folgen. Der Hauseingang ist quasi zwischen den beiden Hochhäusern. Ich wohne in dem vorderen der beiden Häuser. Wenn ihr dann im Inneren angekommen seid, lasst ihr euch vom Concerge den Fahrstuhl für die 22. Etage freischalten (das dürfen normalerweise nur Bewohner, die im Besitz einer Fahrstuhlkarte sind). Oben angekommen rechts halten und die Wohnung mit der Nummer 22c aufsuchen. Wie es dann weitergeht, hängt stark davon ab, wer genau davorsteht.

Sonstiges

WhatsApp ist blockiert in China. Solltet ihr also irgendwo stranden und mir eine WhatsApp-Nachricht schreiben, so könnt ihr das natürlich gerne tun, aber helfen wird es nicht. Alternativ also bitte die klassische SMS im Fall der Fälle benutzen (an meine chinesische Telefonnummer!). Wer sich länger in China aufhalten möchte, für den bietet es sich an, sich bereits am Flughafen eine chinesische SIM-Karte zu kaufen. Damit ist man dann sowohl telefonisch erreichbar als auch, und das ist viel wichtiger, online verbunden! Die übereifrigen Besucher oder die frequent Traveller’s können sich dann quasi als Krönung noch WeChat zulegen, das ist die deutlich bessere chinesische Version von WhatsApp. Auf persönliche Nachfrage rücke ich auch gerne meine chinesische Telefonnummer und meinen WeChat-Namen raus.

 

PS: Auf dem Rückweg bitte dem Taxifahrer nicht einfach nur „to the Airport “ sagen, sonst ist die Gefahr gegeben, dass ihr zum Hongquiao Airport  gebracht werdet (der ist am anderen Ende der Linie 2 und sicher nicht der Richtige).

Visiting preparations in general

No question, I’m looking forward to any kind of visit. This blog entry is intended to make the preparations for your visit as clear as possible and at the same time I would like to save some of my time, since I would like to explain it „correctly and in detail“ for once and will only refer to this article afterwards.

If you want to visit me, you need an invitation letter from me. Among other things, the date of entry and departure is specified in the letter. This is great for me, because it virtually rules out any surprise visit. Unexpected cleaning controls (from mother or grandma) will not exist!

With the letter of invitation you apply for a tourist visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate for a maximum of 3 months. If you want to stay longer, it gets really complicated…

After you have stuck the visa in your passport, the only obstacle to your arrival is the lack of flight booking. Let’s say you land in Pudong (Pudong International Airport is Shanghai Airport for most international flights) with or without delay, then there are several ways to get to my apartment from the airport.

• Taxi: Probably the most sensible and, depending on the time of day, the fastest and most comfortable of all possibilities.
• Metro: Definitely the cheapest of all possibilities.
• Maglev: A very exciting way to cover a small part of the way.

Let’s take a look at the possibilities one by one.

Taxi at the airport: After you have left the customs area, a horde of people with signs from international companies and hotels await you. Already here some try to steer the inexperienced tourists into a „black“ taxi. Ignore, ignore and just move on. The signs to the Metro, Maglev (Transrapid) and the taxis are very good. Just follow these signs. Somewhere you leave the airport building and in summer you get a bang in front of the bib because of the warmth and sultriness. If you see a large crowd somewhere, there is a good chance that it is the queue to the taxis. Here it is important not to be deterred and simply to queue at the end of the line. 100 m queues can occur, but they can be completed in 15 minutes at the latest. As soon as you arrive at the front of the head of the snake, you have to stay calm, the watchman tells you when to go to which of the taxis. Get your suitcase in the car and get in the car. Where to go will be explained later. First duty now is to clear the taxi lane so that people don’t have to wait unnecessarily long for you in line. While we’re waiting in line: Time is ideal for searching for and unpacking the directions prepared at home (whether as a food tag or as a picture on a smartphone). This information is then sent to the driver and off you go. If the driver asks something funny, always nod friendly and smile, it will fit… As long as you’re in an official taxi, the risk of getting screwed over is practically zero.

The real experts among the world travelers can be recognized by the fact that they follow the journey live. The offline map „maps.me“ is ideal for this purpose. A really great app. Of course you have to download the corresponding maps before departure.

In good weather (good visibility) it can be worthwhile to look out the window on the right side, because with a little luck you can see or guess the incredible skyline with the incredible high skyscrapers on the horizon. Of course, the driver also wants to be paid at the end of the trip. Chinese money was organised either in Germany or at the airport at the latest. The minimum one hour drive from the airport to the city centre costs approx. 200 RMB (approx. 25 €). When getting out it is important not to leave anything in the taxi 🙂

 

Subway

It is also possible to take the metro from the airport to the city centre. However, it is still necessary to buy a metro ticket, either as a single ticket or as a credit card. The latter is the only sensible thing to do, preferably charge your card with 100 RMB at the same time. That should be enough for a vacation. Every fellow traveller needs his own card. In case of doubt, the girls at the counter will help you with the purchase. Since the airport is the penultimate station on metro line 2, there are even certain chances of getting a seat. In commuter traffic, however, the choice of the metro is definitely a modest option, as this line is the best filled in the whole city. If you get a seat, the joy ends at the station Guanglan Rd, where you have to change from line 2 to line 2 – actually, no shit. Why this is so, I can also not say, but is so… So simply, when everyone gets off, off the train, other side of the platform and back on the train, or the next one, the first one should already be full. Once you have made it to Jiangsu Rd. after an eternity, you have to get out. Each station has numbered exits. Please use output number 3. As soon as you see the daylight, keep quite sharp to the right – i.e. make a U-turn of 180 degrees – and walk through the „courtyard entrance“. Don’t be surprised, just keep moving. The narrow hollow alley makes a 90-degree bend to the right and another to the left and after only about 200 m you are on a parallel street to the original street. 50 m along the street on the left, then cross the street and you have already arrived at my domicile.

The App Explore Shanghai is also worth mentioning in connection with underground travel. In it the Metroplan is visualized in a very clear way, the language can also be changed from Chinese to English (button at the very bottom right).

 

Maglev

If you want to experience the Maglev adventure, I can recommend this blog entry from 2012 as preparation reading. If you want to drive with an open mind, don’t read the entry. The implementation is very simple. At the airport just follow the signs, buy a ticket, get in, get out – done. Well, almost finished, when the trip is over, you have to take the rest of the way, either by metro or by taxi (see above…), whereby the taxi search at the airport is much easier because it is better organized and possible without Taxi App Didi.

You will be very close to the final spurt when you reach the following address:

Ideally, both addresses should lead to the same point on the map.

To complete the enema you have to pass the security checkpoint. This is the place with the fence and the barrier. Then just follow the path. The entrance to the house is between the two high-rise buildings. I live in the front of both houses. When you arrive inside, the Concerge will unlock the elevator for the 22nd floor (normally only residents with an elevator ticket are allowed to do so). At the top, keep to the right and go to the apartment number 22c. How it continues depends to a large extent on who exactly stands in front of it.

 

Others

WhatsApp is blocked in China. So if you are stranded somewhere and write me a WhatsApp message, you are welcome to do so, but it won’t help. Alternatively, please use the classic SMS in case of emergency (to my Chinese phone number!). If you want to stay longer in China, it is a good idea to buy a Chinese SIM card at the airport. This makes you both reachable by phone and, more importantly, connected online! The overzealous visitors or the frequent travellers can then buy WeChat, which is the much better Chinese version of WhatsApp. On personal request I will also gladly give out my Chinese phone number and my WeChat name.

PS: On the way back, please don’t just say „to the airport“ to the taxi driver, otherwise you are in danger of being taken to Hongquiao Airport (who is at the other end of Line 2 and certainly not the right one).
